ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain said on Thursday that regional offices of the Federal Insurance Ombudsman would help dispense justice to people on their doorstep.
Speaking at the inauguration of regional offices of the Federal Insurance Ombudsman in Islamabad and Lahore, the president said the federal ombudsman was a ray of hope for people facing problems. He said that a majority of the people was unable to understand the complex legal procedures and handle their issues. He said it was important to reach out to the people in all parts of the country for dispensation of justice.
He called upon the ombudsman to simplify the procedures and make these easily understandable to layman. He lauded the work of various departments of the ombudsman. He proposed offices of the ombudsman in provincial capitals. He said the concept of insurance was important in the field of business and investment.
Hussain said that some insurance companies were not abiding by the rules and regulations and not paying claims to their clients on time. He said that such companies should not be allowed to operate in the country.
The president distributed cheques to the affected people of insurance policies.
Federal Insurance Ombudsman Raeesuddin Paracha said the regional offices would be helpful in providing speedy justice to the people. He said that steps were being taken to raise awareness among the people about the assistance the ombudsman would provide to them. He said the ombudsman would activate its cell phone messaging service soon. He said the office of the ombudsman would contribute to restoration of people’s trust in the insurance companies.
Federal Ombudsman Salman Farooqui and senior officials attended the ceremony.
Separately, the president said that Pakistan’s future was linked to democracy and all institutions were on the same page on national development. Addressing the participants in the 104th course of the National School of Public Policy at Aiwan-e-Sadr, the president said there would be no problem in the country if all institutions work within their limits.
The president said that corruption had eroded the system. He called upon the civil servants to play their role to eliminate corruption from the country. He said that reforms were being made in the civil service. He said that a committee had been set up to propose reforms in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas. He said that law and order situation in the country had improved and the economic policy was yielding results.
